S.P.I.R.I.T. Institute is the name of the Second Baptist Church Christian Education Ministry. The purpose of this ministry is to equip and disciple believers and others thru study and lifestyle. We believe that SPIRIT is an excellent opportunity for you to participate in Bible study in a more individualized way. Like a college student you can develop your own area of study based on interest, needs, spiritual gifting or spiritual growth.
BIBLE DISCOVERY HOUR
Provides teachers, materials and classrooms every Sunday morning at 10 am for study and teaching God’s Word to all age groups of attendees.
DEACON’S
Serves the SBC congregation and community by leading devotion and serving communion during worship services and by making at least quarterly contacts with SBC members regarding their spiritual and other needs.
HEALTH
Provides health-related information and guidance through programs and materials that addresses the health needs of SBC members and the community.
HOSPITALITY
Welcomes visitors and returning members to SBC through warm words and love by providing spiritually designed welcoming packets to them regarding SBC
MEN’S
Identifies and addresses the spiritual and other needs of men and others at SBC and the community through praise and worship, prayer, monthly meetings, fellowship, bible study and other leadership activities.
WOMEN’S
Identifies and addresses the spiritual and other needs of women and others at SBC and the community through praise and worship, prayer, monthly meetings, fellowship, bible study and other leadership activities.
YOUNG ADULTS – “GROWING IN GRACE”
To identify and address the spiritual and other needs of young adults and others at SBC and the community through praise and worship, fellowship, bible study, prayer, monthly meetings and other leadership activities.
SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Provides spiritual orientations and spiritual gifts assessments to new members through classes, mentoring and other related activities and programs.
USHERS
To greet all attendees of SBC at the doors with a warm smile, a handshake or a hug. Provide them with a church program for the day and other information that addresses SBC and other community information.
MUSIC & PERFORMING ARTS
To exalt the name of the Lord through the voices of the choirs, the music of the instruments and the movement of dance and to be dedicated in our praise and worship.
TRUSTEES
To serve as financial officers. To account for the monies collected through “giving”. To oversee the processing of financial obligations, identifying maintenance issues at the church and assuring their resolution.
PASTORAL CARE
To help a grieving person cope with and work through their grief constructively.
MISSIONARY CIRCLE II
To establish a food pantry and provide food to those in need. Also, to provide clothing and other assistance to needy families.
PRAYER WARRIORS
To pray, lead prayer and provide prayer opportunities for others and to make prayer the top priority for this Second Baptist Church ministry.
WILLING WORKERS
To elevate the sick and shut-in church families and within the community. To promote the educational achievements of our youth and to touch the lives of the un-churched through service.
VISION 2050
To assist the SBC ministry in achieving its goals and objectives that ultimately will move it toward possessing its vision.
WITNESSING
To provide a loving witness to those seeking Christ and to assist them in understanding how to move spiritually in that direction.
SBC STAFF
To provide spiritual and administrative support to SBC ministries, members and their families and the SBC community.
YOUTH AND CHILDREN
To equip youth and children in their preparation for a Christian life. To prepare them in prayer, fellowship and to let love abound in their lives.
EDUCATION ADVOCACY
To assist families in navigating the educational system in their efforts to improve the academic performance of their children.
